Coinbase Q2 trading volume, monthly users rise as regulatory scrutiny increases

Coinbase Global (NASDAQ:COIN) Q2 earnings and revenue exceed consensus estimates as monthly transacting users increased 44% from Q1 to 8.8M. Q2 adjusted EBITDA of $1.15B rose from $1.12B in Q1 and $61B in Q2 2020. Q2 trading volume of $462B increased from $335B in Q1 and $28B in Q2 2020. Retail trading volume of $145B rose from $120B in Q1 and $11B in the year-ago quarter. And institutional trading volume climbed to $462B from $335B in Q1 and $28B in Q2 2020. Bitcoin is accounting for a lower share of overall trading volume. It was 24% of trading volume in Q2 vs. 39% in Q1. Ethereum's share increased to 26% from 21% in Q1, and other crypto assets' share climbed to 50% from 40% in Q1.
